College Scholarships Available!
The Hampton Roads Community Foundation (HRCF) administers many college scholarship funds, including some created by Eastern Shore philanthropists dedicated to making the dream of a college education possible for our Eastern Shore students. Below please find a listing of some scholarship opportunities and forward this email to any families who might be able to take advantage of them.
Holland Family Scholarship Fund: for graduates of public high schools in both the Eastern Shore of Virginia and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Preference will be given to students in need of financial aid for undergraduate education, with a preference for those pursuing degrees related to farming and agriculture or who have demonstrated interest in farming and agriculture.
Julia Atwater Bristow Fund: for graduates of public high schools in Norfolk and on the Eastern Shore who are attending a secular four-year university or community college.
S & C Gagliardi Scholarship Fund: for graduating high school seniors from public high schools in Accomack County for full-time attendance at a four-year college or university.
Charles F. Burroughs Memorial Scholarship: for students from Hampton Roads (including the Eastern Shore) attending Hampden-Sydney College.
Sierra Jenkins Scholarship: for long-time residents of Virginia pursuing a degree in journalism or a degree in communications with a concentration in journalism at a four-year Virginia college or university. Applicants must be studying print or online/digital journalism. Preference will be given to African American/Black students or other historically marginalized racial or ethnic groups such as, but not limited to, Native American/Indigenous, Hispanic/Latinx, Middle Eastern, Asian and Pacific Islanders. Financial need is required.
Major Robertson Doughty Scholarship Fund: for Nandua High School graduating seniors attending a 2-year or 4-year college or university. PLEASE NOTE: Nandua High School officials select the recipient for this scholarship. Please contact them directly. Neither HRCF nor ESVCF can accept applications.

Applications are due on March 1, 2025.
Please note that students will need to upload transcripts, a personal statement, FAFSA Submission Summary, and other attachments. Letters of recommendation may also be uploaded, or the student may provide the email address of the person providing a reference and send an email requesting the recommendation through the portal. The entire application must be completed online by 11:59 p.m. on March 1. Based on their responses, students will automatically be considered for scholarships that match their qualifications. After submitting the general application, students may see a list of other recommended scholarship opportunities for which they may be eligible. Students must answer additional questions to be considered for these opportunities.
Hampton Roads Community Foundation also administers several undergraduate scholarships for Virginia residents who are college juniors and seniors in certain majors, as well as graduate-level and medical school scholarships.
